After 10 days I am very pleased to be able to say we’ve had success beyond our expectations. Social organization within the village was very smooth and productive although village meetings in Nepal require significant patience.

Surveyor Andrew Waugh of the Great Trigonmetrical Survey of India completes the first height measurement of a mountain temporarily called Peak XV at 8840 meters making this the highest mountain in the world. Peak XV was renamed Mt. Everest to honor Sir George Everest, the Surveyor General of India. Everest is also known as Chomolungma (Mother Godess of the World) in Tibet and Sagarmatha (losely translated as above or on top of the ocean) in Nepali.
